Man admits sex offences against young males at summer camp
A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.
Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that time," she added.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the events.
Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the police once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
